Our first day of school began with many smiles – from the children, the teachers and as you can imagine the parents too
Learning areas were set up in large open spaces and beautifully decorated with displays, soft furnishings, books, and artefacts. But what really made these spaces come to life was our children. They were pleased to be back at school, to see their teachers again and to be with their friends.

2012 is set to a very exciting year. We have a few new projects being planned for the year and a few new staff joining the team. You will find out much more about our projects as they begin to unfold and you will also be meeting some of our new members of staff.
Our first day of school for the students in Thursday 2nd February. As usual we will begin at 9am. The children should know where their classroom is but there will be people helping out in the morning.
We have five classes -

On Wednesday 14th December we had our BER opening ceremony. BER stands for Building the Education Revolution. The Student Representative Council (SRC) and Jason helped with the organisation of the day, as did the many other teachers and staff.
We were joined by three politicians – Senator Gavin Marshalll, MP Bronwyn Pike and MP Adam Bandt, with Senator Marshall being the official representative of the day. The students performed four songs on the day which all represented a part of the Debney Meadows life-
Welcome song by all students -Funga Alafi
Grade 1/2s – Making Friends
Grade 3/4 – World Shapers
Grade 5/6 – Our time at Debney Meadows
Here’s a little snapshot of the students at Debney Meadows PS…
On Wednesday 23rd November, 2011 the Prep class from Debney Meadows Primary School went on an excursion to ArtPlay at Birrarung Marr. The students took part in a Lego workshop contributing to Building the Green City of the Future.
While at the workshop students had the opportunity to think about what designs they may create, have access to thousands of pieces of Lego & have ample time to create their constructions in a friendly & supportive environment.
The DMPS students were also able to bring along their iPads to the workshop. They were able to take photos of their time at the Artplay workshop and of their Lego creations. These photos then became a basis of their literacy focus back at school. On the following day the students used their photos to create language experience books on their iPads. The students used the Book Creator application that creates personalised books which utilises photos taken by the students and text created by them. What a great experience!

Street Smart, Street Savvy is a full on fun packed day. It’s educational, active and fun. The entire grade 5s had a blast with learning self-defense, hip hop and also playing some mini fun soccer games. Plus you learn how to be safe online and other safety stuff by a police officer.

I can’t wait until next year when I can go again!

Wow, what a show! Tonight after school our Year 4 – 6 students participated in our school play, The Sultan’s Daughter. Our students certainly stepped up on the night and everything ran to plan. Our parents and families came to watch and support their children. It was a great turn out and a full house.
