Debney Meadows PS is having an open day to share information about our school to our current parents and any new families thinking of enrolling. The students will also be sharing some of their work and discussing the school with visitors.

Clean up Australia Day

For the last five or six years, Debney Meadows PS has been a host site for the Clean Up Australia Day event. This was my first year to be involved. The local community obviously not only look forward to the chance to clean up their surrounds and waterways but also to take part in some of the events that our organised to engage the children.

Rubbish collected

The children were keen to see the return of the Wild Action, the zoo that comes to you! You can see some very big grins here on the children. Hopefully the animals too enjoyed their time.

Our first day of school began with many smiles – from the children, the teachers and as you can imagine the parents too Learning areas were set up in large open spaces and beautifully decorated with displays, soft furnishings, books, and artefacts. But what really made these spaces come to life was our children. They were pleased to be back at school, to see their teachers again and to be with their friends.

The new school year begins

2012 is set to a very exciting year. We have a few new projects being planned for the year and a few new staff joining the team. You will find out much more about our projects as they begin to unfold and you will also be meeting some of our new members of staff.

Our first day of school for the students in Thursday 2nd February. As usual we will begin at 9am. The children should know where their classroom is but there will be people helping out in the morning.

We have five classes -
Prep – Flora
1/2 – Greg
2/3 – Jason
3/4 – Emma
5/6 – Anita

Teachers will be starting on Wednesday 1st February, getting their classrooms ready and learning a little more about the year ahead.

We look forward to our new preps joining us on Thursday

Our BER opening ceremony

On Wednesday 14th December we had our BER opening ceremony. BER stands for Building the Education Revolution. The Student Representative Council (SRC) and Jason helped with the organisation of the day, as did the many other teachers and staff.

We were joined by three politicians – Senator Gavin Marshalll, MP Bronwyn Pike and MP Adam Bandt, with Senator Marshall being the official representative of the day. The students performed four songs on the day which all represented a part of the Debney Meadows life-

Adam Bandt impressed with our Prep iPad program

A few weeks ago, Adam Bandt MP who is also our local Federal member, came for a visit to the school. He enjoyed seeing all the school but took some extra time in the Prep classroom learning more about how to use the iPads for learning. Issan was a great help and shared many apps with Adam.
